Did you ever have a SLAM book growing up? I remember making one with my friends when I was in Junior High. (Yes, I’m old enough to have gone to junior high and not middle school). My friends and I recorded everything it the book-Our favorite bands, books, and movie lines. I’m sure we wrote about our celebrity crushes too. Mine was Harrison Ford-I think most of my friends were in love with Bon Jovi.
We used a wide ruled notebook for our SLAM book. On the first page you signed your name by a number. This number remained yours for the rest of the book. Each page had different questions on them. It was really fun to see all of my friends favorite things.
I started thinking that a SLAM book would be a fun way to start a speech and language group, an articulation group and especially a social skills group.
My FB friend Shari came up with a great title, “Question Me this: Weekly Swap & Share binders” I’m really excited to use this product. Here’s what it includes:
It contains weekly pages and activity ideas for how to address social thinking skills using this book. Questions range from basic (Favorite food) to more complex (What is one thing you would change if you were principal for the day. It includes 3 different binder cover sheets and 52 weekly worksheets. It gives you more flexibility in case some weekly worksheets are not appropriate, too difficult or too easy for the students on your caseload.
I also included a classroom version which includes up to 30 numbered spots. If you purchased this and needed more than 30 spots-I will send them to you for free.
It seemed like some of these questions would really make sense for use as journal prompts. I edited some questions to provide opportunities for longer responses. I think it would be a great year end activity to staple the pages together and send home for parents to read.
Let’s have a mini SLAM session on the blog today. What TV show/shows are you most looking forward to this Fall? I’m pretty excited for the last season of the Sons of Anarchy.
