I’m always looking for new ways to have fun and target my goals in speech therapy. We throw our speech cards on the floor, in the garbage and try to flip them off of the table. It’s why I’m really excited about my newest product: WH Question Targets. Last month I posted a Leprechaun freebie using stand up targets that you knock over using a straw and a Q-tip. I started thinking it would be great to have the same option but with language targets.
It takes a little prep to set up because you need to cut out all of the targets. I did it while catching up with some reality TV. Reality TV is the best for cutting and laminating products because in general you can miss a little bit and still pick up with the main idea. I get lost if I try to prep materials during shows like the Black list or House of Cards.
I don’t know that you can ever have too many picture targets. I included 104-for who, what, when and where questions.
You can make up your own questions-or you can use the questions provided. I included 2 questions per target. Some of the questions could be answered by more than one target.
I like using the charting sheets to track receptive or expressive language data. I also included homework sheets working on specific question answering as well as providing mixed targets for generalization of skills.
One of my favorite things is that while it is designed to work on WH questions, you can use the targets to address a variety of language targets:
- Categorization
- What does not belong
- Receptive identification
- Identification by function
- Defining
I use my standard straw and Q-tip blowing method, but have also used these targets with my animal poppers and disc shooting toys. My clients LOVE to knock things over.
WH Question Targets is available in my Teacher’s pay Teacher’s store.
Would you use this type of product in your speech room? I’d love to hear about it below!
