It might be my inner Speech Pathologist rebel, but I love games where I get to throw things in therapy. Plus I know my clients love these kind of games. I’ve picked up a few of these shaped character rugs at the Dollar Spot at Target. So I was excited to see a Christmas themed rug.
SANTA LOVES COOKIES
I knew I needed to pick up this rug when I saw it at the Dollar Spot. I picked up some foam gingerbread men at the same time. Some were big and some were a little smaller. They work best if you throw them sideways like a frisbee. You could add numbers to the gingerbread cookies and use them for the number of repetitions or targets that the client should complete. I’m strapped for time so I just played a simple game where you got a point if you landed a gingerbread person on Santa and move if it didn’t land on them.
SNOWMAN ORNAMENT BRAINS
I picked up this melamine snowman head snack cup last year at the post holiday clearance. You could use any kind of holiday bowl or cup. I picked up these ornaments for 1.00. You can use any therapy material that you already have. I may work on having my client say 50 repetitions and then we each get 5 ornaments that we try to throw into the cup. The person with the most in at the end of the session wins.
Do you have any quick, minimal prep activities that you use in therapy? I’d love to hear about it!
