I’m a sucker for a good makeover story. I used to love the makeovers in my teen magazines and then progressed to shows like What not to Wear and Trading Spaces. I even had my own (embarrassing) make0ver story. We were invited to a New Year’s Eve party for my husband’s boss. It was just a simple neighborhood block party he told me. I asked what to wear and he said just jeans and a nice top. I was a little disappointed. New Year’s Eve is the one day of the year where you can dress like a princess and no one cares.
We get to the party-there are about 20 other couples there-and they are dressed in formal wear. *Sigh* Not to worry though, I was soon whisked upstairs by the hostess who had a beautiful collection of gowns. I ended up in a silvery number. She even had a pair of coordinating heels in my size-which was funny since she wasn’t my shoe size at all. It’s important to remember that this is the middle of the Winter in Minnesota-and I wasn’t planning on showing my legs or wearing a strapless dress. I hadn’t properly prepared so I was nervously checking to see how bad the growth was when I accidentally backed up and dropped the heavy back sequined part of the dress into the toilet. So now I had to walk down a long stair case to the party-while pretending that the back of my dress wasn’t soaking wet with toilet water and making sure to keep my arms down to avoid showing mid-winter hair growth. I did however get a round of applause from the happy party goers-which did feel like what you might get if you were able to go on What not to wear. I hope she doesn’t read this blog-It was a lovely dress and I had a fantastic time!
That was a long (potentially uncomfortable) story just to get to my TPT organization makeover. My system has been to put game cards in a plastic sandwich bag, label the bag with a sharpie-and then throw the bags into a plastic tote. I had 6 totes stacked in my office for a period of time. Then I switched to 3 larger plastic drawers I picked up at the Container Store. (they fit perfectly under my desk).
Here was my old “system”:
Carly from Happily SLP was kind enough to guest blog at Speech2u last year when my mother in law was in town. She had a great post about using index card holders to organize your TPT cards. I’m reposting this below:

I’m doing something similar, but what you’re doing is probably cheaper!

I love seeing material makeovers. Great job and thanks so much for sharing with the world.

Wish I had taken the time to look at this before I did my shopping yesterday – the bags don’t quite do it for me either, and neither do book rings. What a good idea!

Thanks for the story and the tips. I have some of my materials in index card boxes but they don’t look as nice and as organized as yours.

Also, what are those cards in the top picture that look like they have beakers on them and say “you need”?
