One of my favorite things to do in therapy is just throw things around the room. Sometimes we throw picture cards, sometimes we crumple up our worksheets (when we are finished) and toss them in the trash. Sometimes we slide our picture cards under the door while we tell them to go away. It’s a quick and easy activity that is usually really motivating for my clients. Here are some of my favorite tossing games for Halloween:
1. Halloween bean bags. I found these Ganz Halloween bean bags last year on clearance. You can find them online-but I would also check Etsy for themed bean bags. Wilma Dean Trout has a set of pirate themed beanbags that are on my wish list. The bucket is glow in the dark, so sometimes I shut off the lights and we see how many we can throw in.
2. Spider Rug Toss: I got these plastic spiders and spider rug at the Dollar Spot at Target. These glow in the dark too. Sometimes I add stickers to make the rug more of a “dart board” where the students can get points-0r the number of cards or repetitions they need to say on their turn. I also like having them work to get 10 spiders. We turn off the lights and see how many they can throw on the rug.
3. Eyeball Pong: There’s no shame in importing a college drinking game into your therapy. (as long as you keep the origin of the game secret). I picked up these pingpong eyeballs and small cauldrons and skeleton heads. We take turns trying to bounce the ping pong ball into the cauldron.
4. Candy Corn Drop: I lined up my small cauldrons on the floor. You could write different numbers on each cauldron for points. In between practice, they get 5 candy corns. They have to try to drop one in each cauldron.
5. Spider basket toss: I picked up this cute spider web bowl at the Dollar Spot this year. I’ve used it with the plastic spider and the eyeballs. Whoever gets the most in the bowl wins.
